Building the Founder’s Office

Gallery Dept. · LA + Miami

As the studio scaled across two coasts, the founder’s office was carrying more than any one playbook covered. We started with a full audit — sitting down with the executives and the existing team, mapping how the work actually flowed, and finding where it could run tighter.

From there we rebuilt it: clear roles and job descriptions, documented systems and manuals, and onboarding and cross-training so knowledge lived in the team, not in one person’s head. What began as a one-time audit grew into leading the bi-coastal team and running the day-to-day.

  • Clear roles and ownership across the founder’s office
  • Systems and manuals that outlast any one person
  • A bi-coastal team, led day-to-day

Embed, build, sustain — start to finish.

Creating a Chief of Staff Role

Urban League of Portland · Office of the President

We came in to steady the Office of the President — the calendar, travel, correspondence, and day-to-day that had outrun a single assistant. We ran an audit of how the principal’s office actually operated, built the processes and a best-practices manual to make the work repeatable, and partnered with the recruiting team to define the role, screen candidates, and onboard the incoming assistant.

What began as a transition plan became a standing role. We stayed on to build out a Chief of Staff role for the Office of the President — defining its responsibilities, managing delegation on behalf of the President and CEO, supporting the executive assistant, and partnering with HR to map the org chart and workflows behind a restructured executive office.

  • A Chief of Staff role, defined and documented from scratch
  • An executive office restructured, with clear roles and workflows
  • A supported, onboarded assistant — and a leader back to leading

Embed, build, sustain — then lead from the inside.

Backbone for a County-Wide Coalition

South LA/South Bay AAIMM CAT

A coalition fighting Black infant and maternal mortality — funded by LA County DPH’s Perinatal Equity Initiative and First 5LA — needed an operational backbone to hold its many moving parts together.

As the coalition’s backbone organization, we coordinate every moving part: a leadership team, a planning team, and four workgroups; biweekly and regional meetings and convenings; the communications, editorial calendars, and partner rosters; and the data and funder reporting that keep public and philanthropic dollars accountable. From one leader’s calendar to a county-wide coalition — same discipline, bigger board.

  • Dozens of partners, coordinated as one
  • Every meeting, convening, and report on track
  • Public and philanthropic dollars kept accountable

Events & convenings

When the moment matters, we run it.

Beyond the day-to-day, we run the events too — galas, conferences, convenings, and executive offsites. Registration, volunteers, vendors, run-of-show, and day-of command, handled, so you can be present for the room instead of running it.

Inside the City of Los Angeles, we collaborated with the production team behind some of the city’s highest-profile public events — and we’ve since been brought back to run registration, volunteers, and day-of operations for major civic moments, including the IX Summit of the Americas and Karen Bass’s 2022 mayoral inauguration.

  • 700+guests Eric Garcetti’s 2017 mayoral inauguration
  • 300+guests State of the City · 2018 & 2019
  • 150+guests Getty House receptions
  • Annual State of Women & Girls Address

Questions

All kinds of leaders and organizations — founders, executives, growing teams, and mission-driven groups across creative, corporate, nonprofit, and public-sector work. If you’re carrying more than any one person should, or your operation is outgrowing the people running it, we can help.

With a conversation, then usually a focused audit of how your operations actually run. From there we scope the right fit — a defined project, embedded operations, or support around a key hire.

Both. We’re rooted in Los Angeles and work with clients remotely across the country.

We don’t source candidates — that stays with you and your HR team. What we do is make the hire succeed: we write the job description from having actually done the role, run a first-round interview to gauge the technical skills most interviews skip (so yours can focus on culture and fit), and handle onboarding so your leader isn’t left training someone from scratch. You can’t hire for what you don’t know — we make sure you do.

Let’s bring order to what matters most.

Tell us what you’re carrying. We’ll help you turn it into clear systems, steady follow-through, and room to lead.
